Anonymous tip leads to arrest of driver suspected in hit-and-run that seriously injured 12-year-old-boy: NCSHP

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) — Driver accused of seriously injured 12-year-old-boy in Moore County hit-and-run Tuesday night has been arrested.

Saturday, NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) confirmed they have arrested and charged 49-year-old Bobby Monroe Frye. Frye is charged with felony hit-and-run, driving while license revoked, fictitious tags, no I=insurance/no Inspection and reckless driving.

He is being held on $100,000 secured bond.

NCSHP said an anonymous tip that led them to Frye.

NCSHP said the hit-and-run happened Tuesday around 9 p.m. on Spies Road near the Montgomery County line as Tyler Mabe, was walking in the road. Mabe was hit by a driver who left the scene.

Mabe’s grandmother Christine Goins told ABC11 earlier this week, Tyler sneaked out to spend time with a 10-year-old friend who lives nearby. His friend was riding his bike while Tyler was walking in the road beside him when he was struck.

Mabe is in the hospital being treated for his injuries.
