Are the men in your life the most difficult to shop for? Why not try the DIY route! I was able to craft the perfect blend of essential oils to make a musky, woodsy scent perfect for all those who have beards.

My DIY beard oil recipe adds a hint of luxury to the self-care routine and makes the perfect DIY beauty gift for someone with an abundance of facial hair.

There is no doubt that the beauty world leans heavily towards women. However, men should also get to experience some luxury too with their own products! A lot of my beauty recipes can be used by anyone, but I wanted to create a couple of beauty gifts for men that were catered specially for them.

DIY Skin Care Gifts for Men

What do men prize most in the beauty world? Their facial hair, of course!

You can always tell the difference between a well-cared-for beard and a neglected one. The good news is that a couple of minutes every day is all a man needs to keep his beard looking sleek and clean.

I crafted two super simple recipes: herbal beard softening and conditioning oil, and a herbal aftershave. Not only are they simple to make, but they are also easy to use for a low-fuss routine. A couple of drops or a quick spray can go a long way!

They make for amazing gifts for your beard-wearing family and friends. Homemade gifts are so much more personalized, and they will appreciate the time and effort you put into making these gifts. I like to give a scented and unscented version of the same recipe, so they can try them out and see which they prefer.

Add some unique and custom packaging or even play around with the scents for a personal touch. The special man who receives it will know it was made just for them.

This post focuses on the herbal beard oil recipe, but be sure to check out my aftershave recipe as well for the perfect gift combo.

Why Should I Use Beard Oil?

Are you familiar with the beard itch? Even us ladies who don’t have to deal with beards have likely heard about this annoying side-effect of growing hair on the face.

Beard itch is often caused by dry skin under the hair in combination with dry hair. Since having a beard removes moisture from the skin, it’s important to bring it back.

That’s where the beard oil comes in. It can help to bring moisture back to relieve that itch. Making the beard less abrasive and tamer, it also softens the skin and hair. It helps to encourage beard growth by strengthening the hair and making it less prone to breakage.

Make an unscented version by omitting the essential oils.

The Ingredient List

These are some of the ingredients I chose for the DIY beard oil and why I love them.

  • Shea butter: is extremely moisturizing and absorbs well into the skin. A hint of it works to protect the beard and help it remain under control.
  • Jojoba oil: is extremely close to our skin’s own sebum, and it won’t clog pores. This also means it won’t feel heavy on the beard and instead will absorb into the hair.
  • Grapeseed oil: works as the base of the beard essential oil blend and will help to contribute to the soft feeling of the hair. It is fast-absorbing and dry, helping to combat a greasy feeling.
  • Lavender essential oil: lavender is a soothing and calming scent. It’s subtle but pleasant and is one of the safest essential oils for skin.
  • Peppermint essential oil: the main ingredient to help combat itch, it’s well known for its cooling effects on the skin and stimulating scent.
  • Bergamot essential oil: a skin stress reliever, it’s a citrusy delight and provides an uplifting scent to the blend.
  • Cedarwood essential oil: gives this recipe its trademarked woodsy scent to refresh and awaken the senses.
  • Black pepper essential oil: contributing to the musky scent of this recipe, it also helps to stimulate and cleanse the skin.

How to Make Herbal DIY Beard Oil

When it comes to making a DIY beard oil or an oil for any other hair, it is essential that the blend is not too greasy, or it will weigh down hair. This recipe is nourishing yet light, helping to tame and hydrate a beard.

Because of how close these recipes will be applied to the face, they are lightly scented. However, some people may prefer unscented products and can choose not to include the essential oil blend.
