Then check out my upcoming talks about gorgeous, inspiring, and — above all — warm Texas gardens! I’ve lined up a bunch of new events for spring, both online and in person, and I’d love for you to join me. I’ll be sharing stories of resilient, creative Texas gardens and their garden makers, plus practical take-home ideas — all featured in my new book, Gardens of Texas.
Upcoming Events
Feb. 4 – Live webinar for the Northwest Horticultural Society, a gardening organization in the Pacific Northwest, but open to viewers anywhere! 6:30-8:00 pm (PST) / 8:30-10:00 pm (CST). Register here. And if you can’t catch the live Zoom, a recording will be available to registrants for 3 weeks after the event.
Feb. 18 – Meet the Author event at Rice University in Houston and live on Zoom, 6-8 pm. This is a hybrid event: when registering, you can choose to participate in person or through Zoom. In this conversation-style discussion, I’ll talk about my background at Rice, how I became a writer, and how my new book, Gardens of Texas, came about. After the discussion, in-person attendees are invited to a reception with heavy appetizers and drinks. This free event is presented by the Office of Alumni Relations and Friends of Fondren Library. Feb. 19 – Houston Botanic Garden, 6:00-9:30 pm. In a panel conversation moderated by me, Houston garden owners featured in Gardens of Texas will join me on-stage to share what they’ve learned about making inviting outdoor spaces, choosing plants, supporting wildlife, and tending gardens that are both resilient and deeply personal. Expect practical insights, local perspectives, and a close look at the beauty of gardens grown in harmony with place. I’ll have books for sale and signing before and after the discussion. Feb. 28 – San Antonio Botanical Garden, 1-3 pm. Join me for a “Gardens of Texas” presentation and discover practical strategies and inspiration for creating gardens with the resilience to weather Texas’s extreme climate. After the talk, I’ll have books available for sale and signing. Free with admission or Garden membership. Reservations recommended due to limited space. Reserve your spot here.
Mar. 7 – Spring Gardening Forum in Temple, hosted by the Bell County Master Gardener Association, 10-11 am. This is a day-long event with four speakers and lunch provided. I’ll be the first speaker of the day, talking about the resilient, Texas-tough gardens featured in Gardens of Texas. After the talk, I’ll have books for sale and signing. Register here.
Mar. 21 – Hill Country Literary Festival in Bulverde (north of San Antonio), 10:30 am to noon. Join me for the festival’s Nature’s Narrative panel, where I’ll be in conversation about writing Gardens of Texas. Stay for a book sale and signing hosted through Nowhere Bookshop. This annual literary festival is free and offers a full day of author panels, book sales, workshops, food trucks, and more.
Mar. 24 – Native Plant Society of Texas in Fredericksburg, 6:30-8:30 pm. I’m heading to the Hill Country to share inspiration and practical lessons from the resilient and beautiful gardens featured in Gardens of Texas. I’ll have books for sale and signing before and after the talk. Open to the public. More info available soon.
Apr. 18 – Cedar Park Parks & Rec event in Cedar Park (north of Austin), 10:00-11:30 am. Free event, plus book sale & signing. Register starting on February 1; find event listing under CEDAR PARK OUTDOORS, Gardening 101, Gardens of Texas.
